Welcome Visitors

Growing up in a Norwegian American family I began studying ancient runes, poetry, archeology, and art in 1988. This deep dive into my Nordic roots inspired a life long passion and full time career as a touring performer, author, and educator. Nature Instruments, songs and herding calls connect me to the most ancient roots...before it was Norway!                   SOUND SAMPLES

More About Me

Norwegian Identified
Both my mother's parents were from Norway and my grandmother kept in touch and visited relatives in the "homeland." I was outraged when asked to check "Caucasian" for race or ethnicity in Junior High. Exploring what it means to be Norwegian and American is my life's work.

Healing Identity

In Old Norse, öorlog, means the past precedence of our ancestors and the story of our own lives in the context of this. Genetic and epigenetic material, choices, actions and inactions are recorded in our öorlog. Our job as humans is to look at these threads in ourselves, our family of origin, and the community and culture we live in. The more knowlege there is about our öorlog, The more choice we have to continue a thread. Will we weave in old narratives or shift the weave? Will we repeat the mistakes of past precedence or will we become wise and learn from them?

As a culture bearing artist, I strive to hold the songs, dances, poems, and stories of my culture with a balanced narrative. Healing identity means we do not write over or bi-pass the uncomfortable parts of the öorlog.

Völva Stav is my unique practice of bringing all these things, timelines, and öorlogs together in a healing way.
