"Remembering Valentine" is the next in the series of Discovering Origins/Building Traditions ritual shows presented by Kari Tauring and her company of talented musicians, dancers, and artists.Explore the stories, myths, and   rituals of the month of February.  From Groundhog Day to the martyred Saint, the month between the Winter Solstice and Spring equinox is rich with tradition.   Come discover the origins and build your own traditions through the dramatics of song, dance, and shadow play.

The Show features:

Ken Sherman - Fiddle Player from the acclaimed Minnesota Bluegrass band Cousin Dad,  and a minor diety in the pantheon of love gods,  Ken will add his talent to the production. He is featured in "The Fiddler", an interactive theatrical treat in this show.

Tamara Rogers - professional ballet and flamenco dancer.  She has worked with Kari on 3 previous "A Yuletide Celebration" shows dancing the roles of Crone Goddess, The Winter Face, The Three Fold Goddess, and the Shadow World Goddess.

Matt Spillum - has worked with Kari on all four Winter Solstice shows playing the Bodhran (Irish drum) in the role of the Trickster of the East and most recently the Heart Warrior.  He is featured among he regular musicians in recordings and other shows.

Matt Yetter - one of the most talented guitarists and mandolin players in the area.  He is featured on both of Tauring's CDs and plays regularly with her all over the mid-west and in the past four years of Winter Solstice ritual shows.

Kip Overbo - has been playing music in the area for two decades.  Skillful at strings and percussion as well as vocals, he is inspiring to hear.  He has played music with Kari ranging from impromptu performances at the local park to two years of Winter Solstice involvement.

Kari Tauring - The "High Priestess" of the ritual show has been playing original music in the Midwest for 15 years.  The success of "A Yuletide Celebration" has propelled her into performance, teaching, and writing opportunities throughout the Twin Cities.  Her work has inspired an upcoming radio documentary on Art and Religion and had moved her to create more shows like "A Yuletide Celebration" and "Remembering Valentine."
"The Process of Discovering Origins/Building Traditions has been incredible", Tauring says.  "As modern culture we are presented with a series of holidays, a set of expectations go with them, and then a series of products designed to meet those expectations.  At the end of it we are supposed to feel good, full of meaning.  And if we don't?  Well, we didn't buy the right stuff and we will try to purchase better next year.
Through these shows I have learned so much about where and why these holidays originated.  In the process of re-presenting these mostly agricultural rituals based on the astronomical events of   Solstices and Equinoxes and the "cross quarters" or the points between them, I have found so much meaning for this modern urban existence."
