Runes and Mythology

The Norse Runes are the ancient symbol system of the Nordic people dating to at least 50 ACE. They represent nature magical energy as well as an alphabet, holding the place for a phoneme (sound in in a word).

The root word - Ru is Sanskrit for secret or mystery. Both Runes and Runos stem from this word. Runes are scriptural and used in magical song and divination. Runos are the Finno-Ugric nature magical story songs, such as the Kalevala.

Runes are a culturally specific tradition. Your ability to use runes for divination and healing is rooted in your connection to the culture that birthed them, the Indo-European Germanic and Scandinavian.

My book, "The Runes: A Human Journey" (2007) will help you put the runes into a cultural context. The culmination of twenty plus years of study, practice, and teaching the runes, myths, and spiritual traditions.

"The book is brilliant, sensitive, wise, chock-full of inner nutrition that energizes the heart and mind. Every rune, every essay gave me a Kenaz ah ha! moment." Tamara Rogers, Minnetonka, MN
