Sustainable
Medicinals in the Urban Environment 2005
Project
History
In
2003, local seedswoman, Sandra Arseth,
began reclaiming the back alley lot at the Minnehaha
Avenue Community Garden Space where she shared plots with her
neighbor Kari. After establishing balanced soil she began adding
a variety of medicinal plants to the ones naturally growing in this
space.
In
2005, Sandra wrote for and recieved a grant from United
Plant Savers to further develop this site and create accessibility
to high quality medicinals by local herbalists, educators, and propagators.
The
dreams Kari and Sandy share:
To see the terms "noxious weeds" replaced by "valued
medicine".
To have a fully thriving and energetically clear place where medicinal
plants can be saved, propogated, utilized and made available for
education and healing.
We
Did It!
Through this grant she was able to buy plants, seeds, and generate
further resources for educating, growing and using medicinal plants
in the middle of a major city! Kari and other locals were able to
utilize the space, the plants, and the energy generated from this
space!
