Gina Sauer: Musician, Writer, Lawyer and Scholar

Kari first met Gina in the Theater Department at Luther College where both studied in the mid 1980's.

"We had a quick flash of de ja voux, an immediate understanding of one another's brilliance and a certain hint of a future destiny!" Kari recalls.

In 1990 the two reconnected in St. Paul, MN where Gina studied at William Mitchell College of Law and Kari was in the M.A.T. program at the University of St. Thomas. They began to sing and write music together with the spiritual awakenings of young women creating their world.

Rose Absolute (the name of their collaboration) produced several cassettes, two music videos and created happenings in coffee shops throughout the Twin Cities area (oh, and Karl Jones made T-shirts). They played in some of the best houses in the Midwest including the State Theater and the Orpheum. They created an amazing vibration between their two vocal tones while deepening their roots with Kari's rhythm guitar and Gina's percussion and occasional flute.

Wanting a richer pallet for their original lyrical urban folk songs, they added bassist Johny Faeth and the fiddle of Eric Sessions. Rose Absolute took a hiatus while Kari taught in England. In the Spring of 1993 this manifestation of their collaboration came to an end.

Gina began feeding her theatrical desires by singing with Jezebel, a "semi-famous spin off of All The Pretty Horses." Her song writing soared while writing and performing with a contemporary Christian group. She was a finalist in the Gospel Music Association's song-writing competition and also got an "honorable mention" in Billboard Magazine's song-writing competition.

What's Gina up to now?

Still singing and writing music with The Boomers, a rock 'n roll band that does mostly covers from the '60's through the present, along with an occasional original tune or two which Gina and another band member co-write.

She works for a small company now doing training/development for law firms and some career coaching for lawyers. She is also the marketing director there.

"My boss and I just wrote a book together on the spiritual/introspective aspect of careers and finding one's life work which we're excited about - it should be on bookstore shelves by January 1 if all goes on schedule."

She is also in the middle of writing her own book, a historical fiction, set in Germany in the year 9 A.D.

"I had to do a lot of research before beginning it, but it was great fun and a lot of amazing coincidences occurred along the way in term of convergence with my own families' history, etc. The book incorporates "mystical" themes of runology, ancient Nordic/Tuetonic religion and culture, etc."

At this writing, the author is experiencing yet another future flash for collaboration between Gina and Kari (who has been researching medieval Nordic women's music with Huldre).

What will happen next? Stay tuned!
