Fashion
The
external expression of internal transformative experience.
Tattoos, henna designs,
piercings, hair styles, and clothing have been used to mark status,
experience, work life, and spiritual growth since human memory can
recall. Fashion changes mark seasonal festivals such as new hats
for Spring, new boots for Winter. Special clothing is used in rituals
for weddings, funerals, christenings...rites of passage.
Dorothy
and Irene Miller, Winnipeg, Canada tell me that in the dream catcher
tradition of their people,
"Dreams
are caught in the dream catcher. Bad dreams are caught and held
by the web until destroyed by the first rays of the sun.
Good
dreams find their way to the hoop where they enter the life of the
dreamer through personal adornment."
Fashion
and ritual are intimately connected. Explore yourself through this
means with a visit to these spiritually active designers whose work
was featured in the Discovering Origins/Building
Traditions project "Spring's New Leaves"
2005:
Anna
Lee, one of the Twin Cities most beautiful and active fashion
designers. Our 2005 spring show featured her Tree
Goddess Dress.

As
we explore our own changes each year, our own world tree spines,
may we all have our good dreams manifest in beautiful, textural,
and joyful personal adornment.
