Thorn - (1993
- 1995)
Upon my return
from England in Spring 1993, Gina and I dissolved Rose
Absolute leaving me, bassist Johny Faeth, and fiddle Eric "Stumpy"
Sessions, seeking a drummer and a new name. We hooked up with drummer
Dodd Johnson (formerly of Little Green Men) and hit the bars as
Thorn. We were regulars at the Uptown Bar, the 24 Bar, and
the Red Sea.
But our plans
to expand our venues and hit the road ended with the departure of
Dodd Johnson. Dodd moved his family to the Seattle area, Eric went
to Iowa, and Johny got married and moved to Wisconsin. This left
me looking for more band mates.
I
am fortunate in that I am
never at a loss for talented musical friends. Paul
Loughridge on Drums and Fletch Fletcher on Bass were playing
together in Sea of Words. They agreed to come on board with Thorn
and we added Evan Murdock on electric violin. We played frequently
at the Terminal Bar, the Loring Bar, the Seventh Street Entry and
the Red Sea
Thorn
Live at the Red Sea in Minneapolis was released in the Fall
of 1993 and got air play on 770 Radio K and KFAI. Some of these
original cassettes still exist and we will likely get a few songs
from it put up on this site for your listening enjoyment.
After the birth
of my first son, Oskar in February '95 (who
enjoyed many gigs from the vantage point of the back pack), I began
to increase my solo work. By
the end of 1995 Fletch and Evan had moved on and Thorn had
pretty well dissolved.
I
released my first solo album, Faith in Me,
in the fall of 1997 with a compliment of extremely talented musicians
to back me up. Most had been playing together for years in The Parsley
Brothers. Also on the CD was my new mate Greg Traxler and our producer
JR Hartley.
