Nordic Roots Education,
Kari Tauring, MAT

As an American, my family tree's roots move through Norwegian, Latvian, German, Scots-Irish, English, French Canadian and Native American cultures. The Northern European cultures have roots in the Indo-European Migrations out of the Indus valley and up to the North Pole. I have studied the histories, traditions, arts and music of my varied heritage for many years. While I incorporate all aspects of my heritage in my performance and spirituality, I offer to teach the Nordic material.

I teach privately, do workshops, lectures and performances.

Other Classes to watch for Spring 2007:

Runes 101

A fascinating historical and mythological introduction to the 24 letter rune alphabet. Tauring traces the Indo-European pathway of the runes from Phoenicia to Etruria to Sweden. We will explore the mythology of it's origins, the banishment in 1680 and the rebirth of a cultural heritage. Discussion oriented, lots of show and tell by Kari and participants will receive extensive handouts and work sheets. Each will get their name translated into rune letters. No prior experience or knowledge is needed.

Deep in the mythology of the runes we can learn their relationship to the world tree, elemental energy and the wise figures who used them. We will spend time with each rune individually as shapes and meanings as well as discussing their relationships by decoding the meaning of our names. We will explore the uses and meanings for the runes in our everyday life as tools for enlightenment, charms, or in design work. After this class, participants will be able to create/use a rune set of their own!

Materials to make rune sets can be purchased from Kari Hand Made Runes

&

"Your Name in Runes"

Get to know the old Norse Alphabet by translating your name into the rune letters. Find out what your name means in Runescript by exploring your personal runes through collage. Materials supplied by instructor.
Fun for all ages!

&

"Yggdrasil the World Tree"

Explore the nine worlds of Norse Cosmology through the myths and stories of the Great Tree that holds the universe together. How are these stories a metaphor for our human psyche? We will build a 3-D model as
go!

Rune students at Ingebretsen's

Dear Ingebretsen's,

Please thank your management staff for sponsoring the Runes and Advanced Runes classes.
I drove up from Albert Lea to attend both classes and it was well worth the trip. Kari Tauring was an excellent instructor. I only wish we could have had more time.

Again, thank you for providing these classes.

Ha det bra,
Rita Peterson

&
