Desdamona
- Spoken Word Artist, Powerful Performer, gracious Lady
(Artist's Website)
I first witnessed
Desdamona perform in the Vox Medusa production of "Cleopatra:
ambitious child" in December 1999 at the O'Shaunnesy Auditorium
in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her words of passion and her compelling
energy portrayed the spoken word dimension of the tragic and powerful
Cleopatra. The whole thing was enchanting, inspiring, and motivating
for my own performance art career.
I next experienced
Desdamona at Goddess Night at the Eat Street Cafe. Sans the dancing,
video, and theme of "Cleopatra" her talent consumed the
room. If you have never experienced her in a small gathering of
powerful women, please do. Her piece "Too Big for My Skin"
hooked itself in my heart and various brain centers. I was lucky
enough to hear her perform it again at Goddess Night in March
2004.
As I began to
run themes for the May Eve Show 2005, "Spring's New Leaves,"
this outpouring of mother/daughter love and support for viewing
her body came to mind (through my heart space). It is handed down
body image that sometimes keeps us from feeling deserving of positive
transformative experiences.
Kari Tauring
and Friends are fortunate to have Desdamona performing in "Spring's
New Leaves" Adding this award winning poet to our list
of talented performers who love to live the good message is a true
pleasure!
